KHARTOUM, May 5 (Xinhua) -- The Chairman of Sudan's Transitional Military Council (TMC) Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan on Monday appointed a new chief justice, the TMC said in a statement.
"The TMC Chairman Abdel-Fattah Al-Burhan issued a decision appointing Abbas Ali Babikir as chief justice to replace Abdul-Majeed Idris, who had been relieved from the post," the statement said.
The reshuffle in the judicial system appeared to meet one of the top demands by the Sudanese protesters who have been in a sit-in in front of the army's headquarters in Khartoum since April 6.
The TMC is tasked with running the country's affairs following the downfall of former President Omar al-Bashir's regime.
