BEIRUT, May 22 (Xinhua) -- Michel Murr, Lebanon's oldest lawmaker, on Tuesday called for convening a parliament session on Wednesday to elect a speaker, deputy speaker and the General Secretariat.
The outgoing Speaker Nabih Berri is widely expected to be re-elected in the upcoming parliament voting for the new speaker, who will then oversee the election of a new deputy speaker.
Three newly elected lawmakers Elias Bou Saab, Anis Nassar and Elie Ferzli are vying for the post of deputy speaker.
Ferzli once served as the deputy speaker for nine years.
Earlier in the day, Lebanese President Michel Aoun called on the current cabinet led by Prime Minister Saad Hariri to continue working as a caretaker until a new one is formed, according to the presidency's official Twitter.
Aoun is expected to hold binding consultations with parliamentary blocs for their preferences regarding the formation of the new government.
